April 27, 2010 - 2 Year Portraits

Formal picture taking is quite a task with these guys. At this session, Anthony was obsessed with lifting the number 2 out of the number base. We couldn't get the pacifier out of Daniel's mouth for the life of us. I've gone into the light and accepted that the pictures may not always be as I've seen them in my mind's eye. Just getting them to both be in it and facing the camera makes us happy. Both smiling is a bonus:)

April 25, 2010 - Totally Terrific and Unselfish Tweenagers

Tweenagers are an interesting group. They are defined as children between the ages of 9 and 12 who are no longer little children, but not quite teenagers. Some can say this age group can be selfish. Such is not the case with my students. I was recently impressed by my awesome students this week! One of our local feeder schools experienced a recent tragedy. One of its families perished in a car accident with only the mom surviving. Since many of my students attended that elementary, I asked them if they'd be willing to donate to our classroom fundraiser. I explained that whatever money they raised, the Blas family would match. I was touched by the fact that some took our conversation home to their parents and returned with generous checks. Can you believe these kids raised $230??? We are turning in a donation of $460 from Room 3 on Monday. I am so proud of them. Way to go, Eagles!!!! A special thanks to the Chavez and Fraga families for your generosity :)

April 20, 2010 - The Sandbox is Officially Open for Fun!

During the spring break, I took the boys to the park. Although they both enjoyed the playground very much, little Daniel seemed to have really enjoyed the sand box area. I told dear husband about it and before you knew it, he was Googling how to build a sandbox. Daniel took his enthusiasm and dimensions to Home Depot and bonded with a helpful employee. Voila! Dan, the sand man, had the project in motion. Camera-happy me, of course, chronicled the creation. Look at what he produced!!!! I am so proud of him! The boys love it!!! Thank you, Daddy!!! Love, Daniel and Anthony Also, thank you Mima and Grandpa Gilster for 16 50lbs. bags of play sand.
*Daniel is now thinking of taking on the task of a playhouse. Home Depot may have created a monster ;)

April 16, 2010 - Testing, Testing....123

As I said a few posts ago, our pediatrician told us at the boys' two year wellness visit that we should have them evaluated for a speech delay. Yesterday, we took them to the Eastern Los Angeles Area Regional Center (ELARC) to have the evaluation done. The speech pathologists who worked with the boys were thorough with us and wonderful with the boys. They assessed the boys socially, cognitively, physically, and on how well they communicated. We won't have a full report with their observations and results for approximately two weeks. If they display enough of a delay, they will be eligible for services. I try to be the gal who sees the glass as half full, so my positive lens says this can only help them. The dork that I am asked the speech gals if I could take pictures since we document important things in their lives. This definitely was important! So glad I took my camera. After all that testing, they needed to go the park for some fun.
4/16/10- Happy 67th birthday, Daddy!!!! Love, Ding

Birthday Presents and Cake!

The day AFTER the Big 2 is just as sweet!!!!

April 8, 2010 - Two Years Old Today!!!!

It is hard to wrap our minds around, but the boys are two years old today! For their special day we took them to www.adventurecity.com . It is a right-sized amusement park tailored to toddlers. The boys knocked out on the way over there, but Anthony was wide-eyed when we got him got out the car. Being that Daniel was still sleeping, Anthony and I got on the first few rides solo. When sleeping beauty got up, this family got on many of the rides together. The really neat thing about this place is that the parents can get on the rides with the kiddies. We had an early dinner at Carrows and were ready to go home to sing "Happpy Birthday" and open presents. Plans changed being that our tired toddlers fell asleep in their car seats. Little Daniel got his second wind, but Anthony was out for the count. The day proved to be fun but apparently tiring. Cake and presents will have to wait until tomorrow!

April 6, 2010 - Two Year Wellness Visit (104 Weeks)

The boys had their two year checkup on Friday. They are definitely growing! Our Daniel is 35" and is weighing 24.8 lbs. Our Anthony is 36.25" and weighs 30.6 lbs. They are doing well in all areas except in the arena of speech. The boys should be averaging more words, so we were referred for an evaluation.
Anthony had his teeth cleaned on Monday. Tears were shed, but he was a trooper! The visit ended with balloons, a goodie bag filled with a toothbrush, floss, toothpaste....and Baskin Robbins birthday gift certificates for him and his older brother.
As for me...I'm on spring break and capitalizing upon the time to schedule appointments and outings as is typical of this insane multi-tasking mamma.

My Peeps - Easter 2010

After the boys opened their Easter baskets, we headed out to the Santa Anita Race Track for an Easter fun day. Daniel nor I have ever been to a race track (outside of swap meets at New York's Aqueduct) and thought it sounded like fun. The event included a grand Easter egg hunt. Considering we missed out on last week's egg hunt due to the pony ride fiasco, I was thrilled that the boys would have a second chance. We luckily got there about 5 minutes before the next egg hunt. This was serindipitous for us considering the boys don't wait on line too well. We lined up with what I thought were other parents. Once the hunt began, they magically turned into cougars ravaging the designated 3 and under field. This being our first egg hunt, we were in shock and awe of the savagery. In our first-timer's minds, we thought the KIDS would be waddling and/or running to the hidden eggs and happily place their newly found treasure into their baskets. Little did we know that the cougars would be sprinting and scooping while simultaneously carrying their toddler. Once I snapped out of my shock, the thought clearly came to me: When in Rome...do as the Romans do. I scooped up Anthony and like Forest Gump said, "I was running." Daniel was behind with little Daniel and I charged to the outer grass area. With fewer people around us, I put Anthony down and told him to run. He had no idea what the heck was going on, but he had the cutest smile on his face as he ran through the grass. In the end, Anthony got 2 eggs and Little Daniel got one. We went from the field to the jumper. The boys were both having fun. Little Daniel at some point must have gotten spooked and had to come out. Anthony again jumped until literally being pulled out. The jumper time was followed by some time playground fun. They sure do enjoy the slide. Being that there were too many bigger kids, we didn't stay as long as they would have liked. All in all, it was a good time. We came home to have dinner and color eggs. They gave us a bit of grief while we set it up for them. Once they were in their high chairs and dipping, the tears were gone.
Mommy Stuff: I've been wanting a really good camera for a while now. The digital camera is okay, but we were constantly frustrated that precious shots were not being captured because of the delay. The Canon Rebel is mine as of last week, but I didn't open it until today. This week off will hopefully provide me some time to learn and practice.
