April 27, 2008 -One Year Wellness Visit (55 Weeks)

On Wednesday, we took the boys for their one year wellness visit without incident. Dr. Castillo instructed us to give them cow's milk, give them more solid food, brush their teeth, transition them to the sippy cup,and say buh bye to the bobo (pacifier). What a tall order the latter two things. The boys got 4 shots at this visit. Daniel stayed with them as each got the shots and then passed them off to me to console. I was quite okay with this method since it traumatizes me each time when I see them turn beet red as they are injected. The cry that follows breaks my heart. Daniel insists that they did better this time. I’m sure glad they don’t have to get shots again for another 6 months.
Daniel is officially in the big boy car seat as of Saturday. It is nice to turn around and see our cuties face to face instead of looking at them through their headrest mirror.
Latest stats: Daniel is 19 lbs. 3oz. and 30.32 inches. He also has 8 teeth. Anthony is 24 lbs. 10 oz. and 31.5 inches. He has 6 teeth. Daniel for about the last two weeks has been able to stand to his feet with the support of the ottoman or sofa.
What sets off Mommy's heartlight now? I come home from work and quietly approach the den and shout, "Mommy's home!" They make eye contact, squeal like little piggies, crawl quickly to the ottoman and stand to wait for their hugs and kisses...Priceless!

April 21, 2009 - A Whirlwind of a Week! - (54 Weeks)

Two weeks went by way too fast! My mom left on Wednesday and it really made me sad. On the way to the airport, Daniel brought her by my classroom to say goodbye again. I was glad that she got to see my classroom and meet some of my students.
Later that day, we took the boys to their one year wellness visit; it did not go well. Anthony, who had been fine all day, starting projectile vomiting while waiting for the doctor. Daniel was the unfortunate person who was holding him. The doctor moved us to another exam room, and again he started. Dr. Castillo decided it was best to reschedule the boys to see her next week for their shots. The domino effect went into play and Daddy Daniel got sick Thursday night followed by Baby Daniel on Saturday. Baby Daniel’s fever got so high (101.5) on Sunday that we had to take him to urgent care. He is on penicillin for what may be strep throat. We are waiting for throat culture results. Aiyaiyai!!!
I’d been hearing the sound of muffled running water in the boys’ room for days. I dismissed it. Finally, on Friday I had Daniel check. It turns out we had a pipe burst under the house. It was filling up under the house and warped a section of the hardwood floor in the boys’ room. We had to call a plumber at that hour. Luckily, we have someone, and he was willing to take this late emergency call. Since I didn’t know if he would be able to fix it, I was frantically bathing both babies, doing dishes, and getting ready to collect water in the tub in the event that we’d be without water until the next day. The pipe was replaced thank goodness without disruption of service.
On a positive note, we are doing the Biggest Loser at work. We have 24 people committed to losing weight. The winner stands to win quite a bit of money on June 15, 2009. I am quite motivated, but I am more than likely not going to win. I am okay with that! It is just nice to get a jump start to losing weight before summer and doing so with my friends. Misery loves company???
One great thing that happened this weekend is that my friend from work, Marie, came over to help Daniel set up my stationary bike. She also stayed to set up my WiiFit. Thank you, Marie, for your part in the creation of my future svelte and healthy body.

This week was kind of crazy with the party preparations. Thankfully my mom was here to help us. Party day was sunny but disappointingly a bit on the cooler side;April can be that way. Our friends came in waves. We were so appreciative to those who could make it being that Easter was the following day. Some could not stay long, but we very much appreciated the fact that they came to wish the boys a happy birthday. One thing that Daniel and I are usually good about is taking oodles of pictures. Somehow on this very important day, we didn't capture all the pictures we wanted (i.e. grandmas together, the kids together, cake table, the party setup pre-guests). I guess we'll have to do a better job on their 2nd birthday!

April 7, 2009 - I Fought The Law and I Won ...Sort of (52 Weeks)

On Thursday I had to appear to contest my ticket. I had hoped the officer wouldn't show up, but he was there. So, I changed my plea and got traffic school. Although I am not thrilled about traffic school, it is a whole lot better than a point on my license. I had to gloat to my dear husband who said to go into the light and accept the point and fine.
My mom is here and I am so glad she is. The boys are getting to spend quality time with their Mima which was way over due. It is also great for me, since we are getting to do things together like planting rose bushes and getting fabric to make curtains. Seems like simple things, but when you don't live near your mamma these things don't happen.
Mommy and I took the boys to Parnell Park's Eggstravaganza on Saturday in the hopes of taking a picture with the Easter bunny. As you can tell from the pictures, they didn't care for him too much. It turned out that the bunny was one of my former students. While shopping at Sams Club on Sunday, we had another opportunity to smile with the Easter bunny;Anthony would have no part of it!
Auntie Leah will not be here for the boys' first birthday since she is back East on a history trip. With all the things she had to do before leaving, she still found the time to buy and bring the boys gifts. They love their swings, which Daddy put up the following day!
