August 28, 2010 - The Opet and Blas Families Visits the Nixon Library

Big Sis Madeline, Kenny, and lovely Emma drove south to visit us this weekend.  It was a short trip but lots of fun.  Being that my sister and her hubby are history buffs, a trip to the Nixon Library seemed very apropos.  Despite Nixon not being a favorite president, I was eager to go especially since he attended my school.  All of us learned many things we never knew.  The boys did the best they could considering the low level of fun for them. After the Library, we went to have lunch at a Puerto Rican restaurant since my sister was craving food of our people.  Daniel and I were more than game since we have a history with this place (our first date!).  The evening was spent BBQing carne asada on the grill and enjoying the company of my peeps, our neighbors Jim and Martha, and Uncle Johnny.  THOSE SUMMER NIGHTS :)

August 19, 2010 - Mommies Need Pampering, Too!!!

Leah called wanting to meet up at Starbucks, but I couldn't since Daniel had semi-concrete plans and the boys' therapy session was about to start.  Daniel overheard our conversation and changed his plans so I could enjoy a whole lotta latte and gal pal time with Leah and Brenda.  Coffee time was proceeded by pedicure time, haircut and color time, shopping time, and a quick happy hour with another friend. Daniel spent the day with the boys and his brother, which allowed me a fabulous day!  This awesome day ended with walking over to Parnell Park and listening to a Motown tribute band while the boys ran around the playground. I sure am going to miss summer.  :(

August 15, 2010 - The Boys' First Classroom

Daniel has been tossing around this idea of creating a classroom for the boys.  The idea came to fruition last night.  Here is what he created with a pinch of decoration and input from me.

August 8, 2010 - Some One-on-One With A Son...Anthony to be exact!

We visited Faith Community church this week per an invite by my friend, Cindy.  We enjoyed the service very much. The pastor is a very good teacher!
Being that Daniel had a paper to write, I decided to scram and give him some time to work without noise.  Cindy and I decided to go to the La Habra Corn Festival. Little Daniel knocked out before it was time to go, so I took only Anthony with me.  It is a very strange feeling to go out with just one.  The twin book I am reading says that  it is healthy and that we need to make it a point to do just that; nonetheless, it feels weird! I had a great time with Twin B! Twin A must now get a date with mom.

August 7, 2010 - Burger King and Sponge Bob

While on our way to Balboa, I saw a sign that Sponge Bob would be at Burger King on Saturday. I made a mental note that if nothing else was going on, I'd bring the boys by for lunch and a photo with Sponge Bob.  Anthony wanted no part of taking pictures with the giant yellow sponge, but Daniel was quite eager to go over for a hug.
Twin Stuff:  Daniel, who is usually not as daring as his brother, has clearly been showing another side lately.  He rode the camel at the zoo, rode the pony at the party, and went over to Sponge Bob. Anthony wanted no part of any of those things. On the other hand, Anthony has been exploding with language lately.  His latest words are, "Dada's car," "cocoa," "chair," "hello," "please," "oh no," "eat food," and "bye, bye."  Another thing Anthony does lately is feel compelled to kiss us on the mouth.  And, last but not least, wraps his arms around my thighs, squeezes, and gives a kiss.

August 6, 2010 - I Do! (Four Years Ago)

Lots has happened in four years of marriage!  We've bought a home and had 2 beautiful kids. On this very special day, my sleepy eyes opened to a very pretty PINK gift bag with gifts for me.  Both Daniel's were sick, so we didn't have much on the agenda except to spend a little time at Balboa Island.   We had a nice lunch at Wilma's Patio, visited the candy shop, and strolled the streets.  We later came home to enjoy a pretty PINK anniversary cake ordered by Mr. Blas.  Thank you for a very nice day despite feeling horrible

August 4, 2010 - Piggy Banks Turned Into Savings Accounts

I recently read an article that stated it is never too early to teach kids about money sense.  Number 7 on the list was to open a savings account.  Although they already have college accounts set up, I thought this was a good idea. Before our outing to the park, I took their piggy bank contents to Banco Popular (A Puerto Rican bank) to open accounts for each of them.  Daniel showed off his bank book. Anthony showed his temper and threw his bank book on the floor because his lollipop fell; a tragedy in his world!  Okay, maybe I should have been calming my son instead of taking a picture, but that's me capturing life!!! I know Auntie Leah will shout out, "Amen!"

July 31, 2010 - Mia's 5th Birthday at the Barnyard Zoo

My dear friend, Susan, had her daughter's 5th birthday party at the Barnyard Zoo this last Saturday. What a neat place for kids. They have a petting zoo, a carousel, ponies, and a train.  Mia thoroughly enjoyed her farm-themed party.  Thanks for inviting us, Mia!!!!

July 25, 2010 - Take Me Out To The Ball Game Part Deux

Back to Dodger Stadium we went in the hopes of seeing the Mets beat the Dodgers.  Uncle Johnny came with us, which was very  nice.  The game was one of those 1,2,3 inning types with the end result being the same as yesterday's....a loss:( Oh, well! The silver lining, if one could be found, is that we got to run the bases after the game. It seems that after a series, kids under 12 are permitted to run the bases.  Since our kiddies are so small, we got to run with them.  Yeah, it wasn't Shea or Yankee stadium but that may be as close as we ever get to running the bases. Afterward, Uncle Johnny treated us to a Puerto Rican dinner at Mofongos.  Yummo!!!!
