May 22, 2010 - Orchard Dale Health Fair

On Saturday, we attended the district health fair being held Orchard Dale. Our school's steel drums kiddos and cast from Seussical performed. There were clowns, puppet shows, raffles, parent workshops, and information booths. We had a good time!

Linda the Barber

A couple of weeks ago, we bought a men's hair cutting set at Sam's Club. Our thinking was that in having it, we could cut the boys' hair on our time table and not on the barber's schedule. How much better they'll be for us is still to be determined, since we haven't tried it out on them yet. Hubby dearest was willing to be a guinea pig on Sunday night. I didn't take it personally that he was looking over the directions. I didn't do too bad for a first timer, huh? My stats so far is 1 for 3. Okay, maybe I better stick to teaching! :)
This week we went to service again. The 2-3 year old room was closed for any more unaccompanied children by the time we got there. Being that the boys would be all over the place in the overflow area, we stayed with them the entire time in the 2-3 year olds room. It was neat watching them play with other kiddies, listen to a bible story, and interact on the carpet during the children's worship songs. We were given a complimentary cd of the service:) Not exactly how we planned on the morning going, but Plan B is a common thing with these kiddos!

May 15, 2010 - Kids Fit For Life Run/Walk

This morning the boys participated in the Kids Fit For Life Run/Walk at the Whittier Police Open House. I would have loved to have had them walk, but flying solo today and not knowing if they'd go in opposite directions as they do in Borders, I decided to keep them in the stroller. They got a t-shirt and goodie bag before the race, and a medal and fruit bar coupon at the end. Next year they are walking;pushing that stroller uphill was just so fun for me! After the event, we walked around and visited an array of community information booths. There were many cool freebies being given out for the kids. I was in heaven when I saw that there was a booth giving out free massages. The boys thankfully behaved. HealthWays Medical Group has a new client in me. We also visited the firemen from Engine 28 and an ambulance. We didn't get to take a photograph with the SWAT team members this year, since they were about to do a demonstration. I love that Whittier Police Department celebrates National Police Week with this annual event and give the community an opportunity to tour the station and learn about other services we have in our own backyard.

Blessed to Be a Mom...My 3rd Mother's Day!

Dearest hubby asked me what I wanted for Mother's Day. Considering no gift will ever top the birth of our boys, I responded that I simply wanted to go to service. We have not been to service in some time now, and my heart has really been longing to go. We arrived early, which was a good thing since I was quietly coping with leaving our boys in the hands of someone besides Daniel, Josefina, or mine. The moment of truth was quickly approaching, and I melted down with each kind person in Children's World who assured me they would be fine. We were given numbers for Anthony and Daniel (109 and 113 respectively) and told that should they not be doing well their number would appear behind the pulpit. Anthony immediately ran to play and Daniel followed behind. We slipped out and went to the sanctuary. I forced my eyes not to look up at the board, yet somehow they'd gravitate there. Number 3 lit up. A bit later number 75 lit up. Each time I realized the number wasn't ours, I sighed a huge sigh of relief. And then it appeared...109! We immediately got up from our strategically chosen seats in the last row to fetch our kids. Thankfully there was no huge issue! It was just a wet diaper, and they don't do diapers. We changed them and were considering leaving since they were clearly ready for their nap. The staff welcomed us to go the family room for the remainder of the service. Troopers that we were, we tried but the boys were clearly done. All in all, it wasn't too bad for a first time. We made it through the worship time, the hilarious mother's presentation, blessing for the moms, and the beginning of Matthew 15:31. Note to ourselves: We have to go to the first service; the boys are clearly morning people!
Happy Mother's Day to all you fabulous mammas :)

Life's Simple Pleasures

It takes so very little to make my heart sing. This week it was: the clanging of new wind chimes, a pretty in pink pedicure, and a Starbucks caramel frapuccino. Julie Andrews had nothing on me as I sang in the shower, "These Are a Few of My Favorite Things." Life is good!!!!
