May 18, 2008 - Cuban Festival (5 Weeks Old)

It is funny, but I cannot gaze at the boys enough. The camera is always nearby so I can take a picture. They are getting bigger (and cuter) with each passing week!

On Sunday, Daniel and I ventured out to LA's Echo Park for the Cuban Festival with the boys. They got their first live taste of salsa and merengue. The music was apparently soothing to them because they slept for hours. We literally had to wake them up to eat (a strange reversal of roles). The day brought record breaking heat, but we were cool as cucumbers in our shady spot under a tree. Aside from enjoying the music, we enjoyed Carribean food and quality family time on this rare Sunday where Daniel didn't have to work. Getting to the festival was quite a feat. As we are quickly learning, excursions of any size require organization, planning, packing, and a dash of patience. After loading the car with two baby carriers, a double stroller, two diaper bags, pacifiers, a set of twins, and a mommy and daddy, we were off. At the end of the day, we were drained but happy we went. By the Puerto Rican Festival next month, we should be pros ;)

May 6, 2008 - Our Family (4 Weeks Old/1 Month)

Well, we've just about made it through the first month! They sure are a lot of work, but you look into their faces and know it is soooooo worth it. Sleep is overated anyway, right? The boys are doing well and gaining weight. They are about 8 lbs. now! Anthony has exhibited some signs of colic. It got so bad on Tuesday that we made our first visit to urgent care.. It just breaks your heart to see him cry and not be able to console him. The doctor gave us a list of things to do to help alleviate his pain. We were also told to buy Mylicon which is supposed to help with the gas. We got the Mylicon, changed his formula to a soy based one which helps with gas and fussiness, and we got the gripe water the lactation nurse suggested. It has made a tremendous difference! The pictures above are the boys at one, two, and three weeks respectively.

Leah's "Show the Love" Dinners

I am so grateful to all of you who responded to Leah's flyer and signed up to bring us dinner. You have no idea how that has helped us during this crucial adjustment period to life with twins. Because of you, I didn't have to worry about sending Daniel to the market or figure out what to make for dinner during the short time the boys are sleeping between feedings. Thank you, Nancy Tyler, for signing up for our first night home. You made that day extra special. The presentation was as fabulous as the meal which included your famous southern fried chicken, sparkling cider, and a celebratory cake with BUTTERCREAM frosting!!! A special thanks as well goes out to those of you who happened to have come by during feeding time and received a baby and bottle into your arms shortly after arriving. I sure have fabulous friends, and I miss seeing you all everyday!
